Here’s a locust I photographed in Tenerife last year. (At least I think that’s what it is – you don’t see things like this in the UK!). It obligingly sat on the roof of the car long enough for me to take this photo.

Liz, I am always amazed at the photos you get…interested angles and subjects…between your blog and southeast main’s, I try to challenge my eyes to look at my environment a little more closer and detailed.

I started trying to take ‘arty’ photos first when I went to university in St Andrews in Scotland and everywhere seemed to be much more picturesque than my home town of Stoke-on-Trent (although nowadays I’ve learnt that anywhere can be). I remember particularly these gorgeous bare trees against a sunset. And taking a photo of the beach at midnight using available light and keeping the shutter open for about 5 minutes – it surprised me when the photo came back as bright as daylight but with a moonlight sheen over everything.
I love June’s blog too – that’s where I got the idea of putting ‘inspirational’ photos up.
