Quandaries and blogger photos test

August 31st, 2005 · 4 Comments

Lisa asked what quandries looked like (or is it quandaries? neither looks right to me at the moment…). I started to make a journal quilt on this topic earlier in the year. I used Spaghetti Junction, a notoriously complicated motorway (highway) junction in Birmingham as my starting point. I never finished it as a proper journal quilt as I got too many other ideas but here it is:
Karoda suggested I put up a test page of a Blogger photo (I hope one is enough to compare them) to see if it looks better than Hello so this one can be it!

Well, I must say it is neater than Hello but it did take about 4 times as long and I’ll have to find another way to turn the photos the correct way round (I used to do that in Picasa and it stayed like that when I sent it via Hello - I’d have to involve Irfanview into the equation. But if enough of you prefer it this way, I’ll do it! Meanwhile, I’m afraid you’ll have to turn your computer on its side to view ‘Quandary’ (the question mark should be at the bottom - I did this with a glue gun, by the way).

signpost on village green

We didn’t have lunch in this village! But we moored here for the night before we had to give the boat back. We had to return the boat by 9.30 am so we needed to moor close by.

Neatishead village sign

Here is another one (where, incidentally, we had lunch too!). The little sign at the top is what it used to be called in some manuscripts, apparently.

Most villages in Norfolk have little signs like this one. We had lunch in this village at the Greyhound Inn - very yummy!

Photos - Hello or Blogger - which should I use?

August 31st, 2005 · 1 Comment

I’ve been wondering whether to start using the Blogger upload photos facility for my photos or whether to carry on using Hello. I’ve got Hello set up so it is convenient, but what I wondered was - would my blog be easier to view with the Blogger photos or with Hello? I only know what it looks like in my browser and in Awasu but not other sorts. So - comments please! Would you prefer me to use Blogger and wrap around the text as on other blogs, or is Hello okay? Do you have to scroll down a lot to see the Hello ones underneath each other or is it set out okay? What do you think?

Virtual Studio at the Festival of Quilts

August 30th, 2005 · No Comments

I just realised I haven’t blogged about the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham yet! I was doing it all in chronological order but I haven’t said much about quilting for ages so it is definitely time… One of my favourite areas at the Festival was Virtual Studio, where you could go and watch various quilters dyeing, screen printing, discharging, all sorts of stuff. I spent a lot of time here. It was great to be able to talk to the quilters and ask them questions. Here is Leslie Morgan, one of the partners at Committed to Cloth in the middle of dyeing. Committed to Cloth organised the Virtual Studio. (The website has got some photos of last year’s Virtual Studio).
