Oh well… 2 days left before the kids break up for Christmas. Well, half really. The two eldest are playing their violins in the town centre tomorrow before having the rest of the day off (during which I will retire to Starbucks with a friend, it being my birthday…). Then on Friday they finish at lunchtime. Tomorrow evening I have to transport Zachary and two other cubs to the cubs Christmas party at a restaurant just outside town and bring them back, so rather than going back home I shall retire to a local Asda and sit in their cafe…
Zachary put up the Christmas tree at the weekend; the other two seem to have lost interest. It is a few years since I have had to do it myself. It is not a real one; I got it at a charity shop about 10 years ago but I like it. And it doesn’t drop needles. Here it is:

At Cubs a couple of weeks ago they went to a workshop where they painted pottery tree decorations. Here are a couple of those he did. He enjoys making things. This evening, whilst the other two are out at their school concert playing their violins, he has been making a few Christmas cards for his friends. Secondary school seems to discourage such activities … the others used to make lots of things too; now they are more interested in computer games and forums. Creative in their own way but not quite the same as messing about with paper, glue, paint etc. I hope they come back to it at some stage. Barnabas did have fun with my soldering iron and heat gun and synthetic fabrics in the summer….
