Untidy studios

February 28th, 2006 · 4 Comments

What is it about this time of year that seems to breed untidy studios? Mine definitely needs a good tidy up. Look at it last year. And now. It’s going to take a good reorganisation to get this sorted out.

Most of this on the table should be put away somewhere.

Here’s proof:

Hopefully it will fit a bit better when it is not over tights. Tights are not my normal attire with socks (duh!).

The second sock has been started and is now about 2 inches long! Progress…

Sock progress!

February 27th, 2006 · 3 Comments

The other day, following a chat with Nadine I picked up this sock I started knitting a year ago and finally turned the heel! I’m on the foot part now and am determined to finish them completely this time. It had been sitting around idle for so long it took me about half an hour to find the needles and the pattern and I had to reknit at least a round because it had come off the needles and unravelled….

Are you an Internet Addict?

February 26th, 2006 · 1 Comment

I am 34% Internet Addict.
Slight Internet Addict.

I could go either way. Deep into the madness of nights filled with coding CGI-Scripts and online role playing games, or I could become a normal user. Good luck!

On to the stitching…

February 26th, 2006 · 5 Comments

Following sticking down and sealing the collages, we have to stitch them. These are some I’ve started - all except one are machine stitched so far because I prefer it.

This is the only one I’ve finished so far! I have added beads and couching round the edge.

Personal Symbols course continued

February 25th, 2006 · 5 Comments

After we painted the background we had to cut out images that appealed to us from a magazine, and also use painted papers etc. Using some of the symbols from week1, we had to arrange them on the background and seal them.

Here are some of the collages I came up with:

Symbols Course work, week 2

February 24th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Well, I’m a week behind on the Personal Symbols course. It is half term, but I am gradually working through it. I took the kids ice skating yesterday and was pleased to see that I could still do it, despite not going to an ice rink for 20 years. I got tired more quickly though! The kids had been practising with their rollerblades so they were very confident at it. The rink is closing in the summer to make way for a John Lewis’s - typical! Just as I’m happy to take the kids in the knowledge they won’t need propping up all the time… The friend who we went with then took two of my kids back to her house with her kids for a sleepover so we had a nice quiet evening…

This is the background of the work for week 2 - we had to paint, stamp and otherwise deface a piece of lutradur or pelmet vilene (Timtex) (haven’t got lutradur so it had to be the latter). Here it is drying:

pink, red, blue painted pelmet vilene

This is the dropcloth I used underneath it, which is a strange stiffened fabric I bought some time ago. I don’t know what it is stiffened with, but when you iron it it goes floppy and then stiff again as it cools.

cloth painted with above colours

I found a few odd drops of Jacquard Dyn-a-Flow kicking round so I dribbled it over it to add a bit more colour:

as above but with a yellowish tinge

We had to chop up the pelmet vilene to make smaller pieces so I did them postcard size. Here are a couple of them with more stamping etc on it:

as above

Come back tomorrow to see some of the results!
