Gocco printing – steam railway and little bird!
I got out my Print Gocco machine for the first time in ages and did some printing.
I took this photo of the steam train on the Ffestiniog railway during our holiday to Porthmadog in North Wales last summer.
I can’t remember which station it was, but I was up on the footbridge at the time. We broke our journey between Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog and had a short walk through the woods, catching the next train back.
I printed another one on a Moleskine cahier and this time put some bronze embossing power along the railway lines, and heated it with my heat gun.
I also did a load more birdie prints, this time in browns and golds:
This one is printed on khadi paper.
And another one with embossing powder on a Moleskine journal:
Of course, I couldn’t stop there and there are piles more cards! Including these little birdie heads:

The photo looks like a negative. What type of camera did you take it with?
the birds look great
really like the shiny one
[...] mir zwar immer noch nicht vorstellen, wie das folgende Kunstwerk entstanden ist, aber lest selbst: Liz Plummer ist Textilkünstlerin und beschreibt im Artikel Gocco printing – steam railway and little bird! [...]
Your railway photo shows Tanybwlch station on the Ffestiniog. It is the only one with a footbridge. I often ride the trains to do my shopping in Porthmadog (at Lidl’s). As a life member I travel free. A train of ten carriages has just trundled past. This is a lovely part of the UK to live in!
Keep up the good work!
Phil
Lesley, I used a normal camera but I altered the photo using Paint Shop Pro to convert it into just black and white to make it suitable for printing. I did a tutorial on how to do this where you can see the process: http://lizplummer.com/blog/2008/09/06/altering-photos-to-make-gocco-screens/
Thanks, Phil, I remember now. It’s the only one with a cafe, I think! We stopped there for a cuppa and a bit of a stroll through the woods.
Thanks, Jennifer!
