Reeds in March

I walked round by the reeds today.  They are very tall …

and dry…

Very straw like… a bit like my hair is becoming the older I get…

The sun still shimmers on the reed heads…

Lots of verticals…

I love the way you can almost see the wind shimmer through the reed beds here…

There was lots of mud at the bottom of the pill (the local name for a type of creek, I think) – the tide was out.  And there were LOTS of supermarket trolleys in the bottom… I didn’t take this photo today though…

I didn’t point it out in this post, although I have in the past, but the river is tidal and is thick MUD. So any cleanup would be quite risky … I think the Council does quite a bit. But I didn’t post it for that reason, more to show the urban setting of these reeds – sometime I’ll post a photo of the industrial background. The way these reeds will grow in any environment and actually the mud is probably quite a protection for them from overdevelopment of the river area in the middle of a town.
