This was the scene which greeted us this morning:

snowy garden

It is the first real snow we’ve had this year and there was great excitement in our house.  The kids were up at 7 am – unprecedented for DS1, who is 14 and finds it difficult to get up by 7.30…  They had the radio on and were busy listening to see if their schools were shut for the day!   Unfortunately for the two eldest, theirs was open so they duly interrupted their snowball fight to get on the bus when it arrived, bang on time.

This is the view from the front of the house.   trees heavy with snow

So white and peaceful… until DS3 and his friend went into the garden and made a snow fortress!  Their school was closed.

But… by 12 noon it was raining and there’s not much left of it … it never lasts long around here.

Oh I LOVE snow! It used to snow occasionally where I lived before, even though it’s right on the coast too, but here in Oamaru it’s a once-every-20-years thing, dammit!

We didn’t have as much snow as you this time Liz. Most of it has gone now, you were lucky to get those photos.

I’ve got a picture up on the blog a few days back of our snow. It has been here for awhile and we are now in the single digits. Our winter of late have been relatively mild so this one is quite the blow.

The kids got very excited this morning! I’ve never seen a teenager get out of bed so fast…. this was the view from our window:

Pity it’s nearly all melted now… or maybe just as well since they’ve got an outing to the ice rink in Cardiff with their youth group this evening!
